UC-COE Sanitary Engineering Students shines at PSSE 2025 Annual National Student Convention

UC-COE Sanitary Engineering students together with their adviser Engr. Krizatel Bangsalud, proudly participated in the PSSE 2025 Annual National Student Convention (ANSC) held on November 22, 2025, at the National University Nazareth School in Manila. With the theme “Forging Pathways to Sustainability: Student-Driven Sanitary Engineering Innovations for a Resilient Nation,” the event gathered Sanitary and Environmental Sanitary Engineering students nationwide to showcase innovations that address today’s most pressing environmental challenges.

UC fielded strong delegations across competitions—from research pitching to quiz bee challenges—demonstrating academic excellence, environmental advocacy, and leadership.

1st Runner-Up – Pitch Contest
Xyrille Magalgalit earned 1st Runner-Up with the innovative thesis “SUPERWORMS: A Super Solution to Plastic Pollution,” highlighting an alternative approach to managing plastic waste through biological processes.

4th Place – Quiz Bee Competition
UC’s Group 1 (Xyrille Magalgalit, Van Villabeza, Alfred Amango) proudly secured 4th place among 49 competing student groups representing universities nationwide.

These accomplishments reflect UC’s commitment to nurturing future engineers who are not only competent but also socially and environmentally responsible.

Advancing UC COE’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the university’s participation in ANSC 2025 highlights how the event uplifts students through national-level exposure and leadership opportunities that support SDG 1: No Poverty, while research presentations on waste management, pollution control, and sustainable resource use contribute to environmental systems vital for food security under SDG 2: Zero Hunger. At the same time, the convention’s strong focus on sanitation, water safety, waste treatment, and environmental health reinforces SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, emphasizing the essential role of sanitary engineering in building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.

By excelling in this national gathering and contributing research aligned with sustainable development, UC Sanitary Engineering students continue to embody the university’s mission of producing engineers who are not only technically skilled but also socially responsible and future-focused.

The UC College of Engineering commends all participants and extends its congratulations to the PSSE-UCSC delegation for bringing honor to the institution while advancing the goals of sustainable engineering for the nation.
