UC faculty researchers and students secured top awards at the 16th Regional Symposium on Research, Development and Extension Highlights (RSRDEH) and the 9th Regional Student Research Congress (RSRC) held from September 29 to October 1, 2026, at Kalinga State University (KSU) Bulanao Campus, Tabuk City, Kalinga. The regional research event brought together researchers, faculty members, and student researchers from across the Cordillera Administrative Region to showcase innovative studies addressing current issues in science, technology, education, society, and community development.
Representing the UC College of Engineering (COE) among the official qualifiers, Engr. Michael James S. Deus served as the presenter for the professional-level study titled “Experimental Proof-of-Concept Demonstration of Kinetic Energy Recovery and Regenerative Braking for Energy Harvesting in an Electric Bicycle” in the Industrial, Energy, and Emerging Technology (IEET) category. Co-authored alongside Dean Rose Ellen N. Macabiog, James Ewald B. Tuanquin, Jericho B. Unson, Richard Clifford H. Abas, Rosemar C. Borlongan, Gerson Kristoff Duggoy, and Joshua T. Padaoan, the research highlighted COE’s commitment to advancing local technological innovation and sustainable energy applications.
By advancing sustainable transportation technology and clean energy utilization, the research presented by the COE delegation directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Developing kinetic energy recovery models supports SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by maximizing energy efficiency in electric mobility systems. Fostering technological innovation in emerging engineering applications contributes to SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), while research-driven solutions for eco-friendly transit advance SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Furthermore, participating in regional consortiums alongside academic and inter-agency partners highlights SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), demonstrating UC COE’s active role in collaborative research and regional development.
