The University of the Cordilleras Mechatronics Engineering Society (UC-MEXES) actively joined the University’s Pride Month celebration through its “MechaPride” Booth, held on June 29–30, 2026. The two-day initiative provided students with a welcoming and engaging space to celebrate individuality, diversity, and self-expression while fostering a culture of respect, acceptance, and unity within the campus community.
Bringing together creativity and engineering identity, the MechaPride Booth offered a variety of interactive activities and commemorative items. Students participated in pride-inspired henna designs, created their own ROYGBIV-themed robot magnets, and captured memorable moments at the Rainbow Photo Booth. Rainbow-inspired graham balls added a festive touch to the celebration, while UC-MEXES ID laces and exclusive pins allowed participants to proudly represent the organization and express their support for diversity and inclusion.
Beyond the activities, the booth served as an avenue for meaningful interaction and community-building among students. By integrating artistic expression with engineering-inspired activities, UC-MEXES demonstrated that engineering spaces can also be inclusive environments where students feel welcomed, respected, and encouraged to express themselves. The initiative strengthened camaraderie within the engineering community while contributing to a more accepting and united campus environment.
The successful implementation of the MechaPride Booth reflects the dedication and collaborative efforts of the UC-MEXES officers, volunteers, participants, and adviser, Engr. Maria Victoria E. Castillo. The organization was recognized through its meaningful contribution to the overall success of the University’s Pride Month celebration, reinforcing the University’s commitment to equality, respect, belonging, and an inclusive academic community.
Through MechaPride, UC-MEXES continues to demonstrate how student organizations can create opportunities for connection, creativity, and advocacy while strengthening a culture where diversity is respected and every member of the academic community can feel a sense of belonging.
The MechaPride initiative also supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5: Gender Equality, by promoting an environment grounded in respect and inclusion; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, through activities that encourage acceptance and celebrate diversity; and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, by fostering a culture of respect, unity, and peaceful participation within the academic community. The activity also contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by supporting an inclusive learning environment where students can participate, interact, and develop a stronger sense of belonging beyond the classroom.
